Everyone knows that American universities are the best in the world and this is said by the numbers obtained from rankings comparing all universities around the world, according to which, 15 of the top 20 universities are located in the United States.
Obtaining a degree from an American university is the ‘ambition of any student and that is also why tuition fees reach exorbitant figures ($30,000 up to $80,000 per year).
Getting into one of these universities seems impossible for most people, but U.S. universities offer academic and athletic scholarships that go as far as covering the entire cost of ‘college if the student is also a good athlete.
Once students finish high school (high school), which lasts only four years instead of five, they apply to enter colleges, which basically are of two types: two-year community colleges (also called junior colleges) and four-year colleges, which, when completed, allow them to obtain a Bechelor Degree that is comparable to the Italian bachelor’s degree.
Junior colleges are a kind of continuation of high school, and once a student finishes a junior college, he or she gets an “Associate Degree” which allows him or her to get a job or transfer to finish the last two years of college at a four-year college.
Once a four-year college is finished, a “Bachelor Degree” is obtained and students subsequently can finish their studies and enter the working world, or continue with a graduate school that lasts another 2 years (or 4 years depending on the type of Master’s degree) and allows students to obtain Masters degrees in business, medicine, law, engineering, etc.
American universities are also famous for their PhDs (doctorates) and postdocs since universities have a lot of funds dedicated to research.
