Collegiate soccer can be compared to a sort of Italian “primavera” in which the best players obtain scholarships that cover the entire cost of university.
Players who aspire to play in the pros usually have distinguished themselves in their respective conferences ( click here to read the article on how the collegiate championship works ). Once they have obtained the degree, which lasts 4 years, the best players are selected by the MLS teams in the so-called DRAFT that are organized at the end of each collegiate sports season (December / January).
This is why collegiate basketball is considered the highest level of youth competition, and getting to play in college on a college athletic scholarship is the primary goal of every American student-athlete.

As for women’s soccer, there are many opportunities in American colleges since the level is very high and many girls who have played in college can return to Italy and continue their career in Serie A or Serie B. The
substantial difference with Italy is that players who choose to go and play in college have both the possibility of being able to continue playing in the professionals after graduation, and the possibility of being able to find a job thanks to a university degree recognized throughout the world, mastery of the English language , networking created with peers and professors from all over the world and a life experience that differentiates them from their Italian peers who have not had the opportunity to have an experience in an American college.
